A STATISTICAL APPROACH IN HULL DESIGN OF HIGH SPEED DISPLACEMENT OR SEMIPLANING SHIPS
The idea of providing the ship designer with carefully processed ship model data that would otherwise be lost is not new; it has been behind several studies published in the past such as CETENA'S QUADERNI INSEAN, Nos. 1,2,3,4 and 5, and behind the Data Sheets of SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers). The CETENA studies listed, which concerned twin-screw ships, presented model test results. The authors of this report aimed to go a step further, setting up a statistical method for the presentation of data. In their opinion, the easy-to-use method can be a valuable tool to the naval architect at the preliminary design stage.
