RESEARCH PROGRAMME 'SAFETY IN THE TRANSPORT OF DANGEROUS GOODS'

FORSCHUNGSPROGRAMM 'SICHERHEIT IN DER GEFAHRGUTBEFOERDERUNG'

Although the issue of safety in the transport of dangerous goods has almost become a permanent subject in the media, the risk connected with the carriage of dangerous goods could hitherto not be described exactly in terms of quantity. As a research requirement the project team recommends to carry out a risk analysis in three steps. The individual elements of the risk analysis consist of a mathematical-statistical risk analysis, an analysis of the weak points and a system model for the continuous analysis of the risk involved in dangerous goods transport. The introduction of electronics into the goods transport systems does not only lead to an increased efficiency of transport operations, but a significant improvement of active and passive traffic safety as well as of accident management can also be expected. The programs PROMETHEUS, DRIVE, ATT and NSUe 2000 have defined the framework and contents and have also done some development work in partial areas.
