FOUR TRACKS FROM TIBER TO ARNO: THE NEW DIRECT LINK ROME-FLORENCE
VIER GLEISE VOM TIBER ZUM ARNO DIE NEUE DIRETTISSIMA ROMA-FIRENZE
In tracing the historical development of the railway network and the excessive operating load on the Rome-Florence route, the Author shows the need for the conversion of the latter to a four-track link. The new tracks will be independent of the existing, but will have several connections with these, and will be built for a top speed of 250 km/h. The technical data for the track alignment and the fixed installations for electric traction and train working are discussed, and the article concludes with a report on the present stage of the construction work and details of bridges viaducts and tunnels.
