INTRODUCING THE MURVICKER TUGBARGE SYSTEM
This article states the essential requirements for a pusher tug barge system, and then explains how these requirements are met by one particular tug barge design. A unique feature of this design is that the tug and barge, when united, have lines identical to, and the hydrodynamic advantages of, a conventional ocean-going ship. Both operational and constructional economies of this system are discussed, and the principles of design are detailed. Results of tank tests performed on the tug barge model are also briefly reviewed.
