COMPUTERIZED CARGO HANDLING ON LARGE TANKERS
Describes an automated cargo handling system for oil tankers which is controlled by a shipboard computer. The computer is described and its capabilities are detailed, including cargo pump control and cargo level control for each individual tank. In addition to controlling cargo operations, the computer can be used for online stress calculations, automatic trim and list control, and it can also simulate loading and discharging operations prior to those actual operations. Operational experience gained by using this system and the savings achieved through computer usage are included.
