REFRIGERATION PROBLEMS OF A VCM-CARRYING TANKER
The cargo refrigeration system of a vessel used in the transportation of liquid vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) is described. In order for the cargo to be maintained at its proper pressure, it must be kept at temperatures between 7 F and 14 F. The problems encountered in designing this system are discussed, and a general system outline is explained. Specific descriptions of the handling equipment for refrigerant pumpout, the liquid/gas separators which are used in the system, and the safety system, among others, are included in the article.
