CLAD PLATES CARBON STEEL/STAINLESS STEEL FOR USE IN CHEMICAL TANKERS
This article describes the main features of carbon steel-stainless steel plated sheets as utilized in the construction of chemical tankers, with their advantages and disadvantages as compared with solid stainless steel plates, and the techniques for manufacturing and testing such plated sheets are also explained. Among the features of the plated steel which are discussed are corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, cutting, bengind, and welding of the sheets, as well as how the scantlings for the plated steel are calculated.
