INTERACTION BETWEEN ANTICORROSION AND ANTIFOULING COATINGS IN SHIPBOTTOM PAINTING
The difficulties in formulating maintenance coatings (as opposed to initial coatings) for ship hulls are discussed. The possibility of interaction between the anticorrosion and antifouling coatings is examined; such an interaction could result in neutralizing the poisonous effect of Cu2O in the antifouling coat. The necessity of complementary tests in the laboratory, on rafts, and at ship keels, is emphasized, in order to get a full report on the essential properties of the coating system. The resistance of impervious primers to acidulated seawater of pH 2 is demonstrated in laboratory tests.
