THE NEED FOR TRAFFIC RESEARCH IN FINLAND
LIIKENNETUTKIMUKSEN TARUE SUOMESSA
This study evaluates the needs and resources of transportation research in Finland and is based on the responses to a questionnaire circulated to 143 establishments. The results of the survey indicate the need for investment in research amounting to 11.7 million Mk, or the equivalent of 290 man years of research. Approximately half of the estimated funds required are in the field of road traffic. The questionnaire also sought information on the type of institutions suitable for carrying out the research work. Universities were the most favoured establishments (34 per cent of all research projects). The study provides a basis for the formulation of future transportation policy and underlines the insufficiency of present resources for handling the extensive demand for research. /TRRL/
