16.2 MW BALTIC ICEBREAKERS
The need for icebreakers in the northernmost part of the Gulf of Bothnia as well as the economics of winter navigation are discussed in some detail. The preliminary design of the URHO-ATLE class of icebreakers as well as model tests in the ice are reviewed. Icebreaker specialities and environmental considerations are explained. The machinery and the DC-DC electrical transmission system are viewed.
