DEVELOPMENT IN LIPS C.P. PROPELLER TECHNOLOGY

The article is a review of three papers delivered by LIPS N.V., a Dutch propeller manufacturer, at a recent technical presentation. The first of the papers dealt with the selection and simulation of control systems. The paper stressed that only four variables were involved as control media: ship's speed, propeller speed, propeller pitch and fuel consumption. The second paper dealt with reliability analysis in the ship building industry. The paper pointed out that there are three basic types of failure: wear out, aging and chance failures. The third paper was a review of controllable pitch propeller developement.
