FRACTURED CYLINDER LINERS - IS BRIDGE CONTROL OR MACHINERY RESPONSIBLE

At a time when shipowners, engine builders and classification societies are investigating with concern the reasons for the increasing number of cracked cylinder liners, an unexpected, and yet feasible, theory is put forward by Van der Horst Europe N.V. Investigations by Van der Horst engineers have led to the theory that these fractures could be a direct result of the adoption of bridge control systems which admit too-severe blasts of cold starting air for over-prolonged periods.
