DURABILITY CHARACTERISTICS OF TIRES

UNDERSOKNING RORANDE ALDRE DACKURSTNINGS HALLBARHET

The purpose of this investigation was to study the endurance of truck tires about 20 years old for the Swedish Materiel Administration of the Armed Forces. Three tires of the size 6.00-20 PLY were run with constant speed and increasing load in a drum machine continuously for about 3 days. The tires passed the test without running flat but there was a widening of the small cracks present before the test. In two of the tires the cracks, especially in the gorves of the tread, had grown so deep that the cord at some places was showing. /Author/
