THE DIFFERENTIATED WRITTEN DRIVER'S LICENSING TESTS, AN ANALYSIS OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TEST USED DURING 1973

The purpose of the study was to analyze the characteristics of the Swedish written driving license tests in reference to: the predictability of test characteristics; changes in these characteristics over time; equivalence of parallel versions of the tests; qualities of separate test items. The analysis is based on a number of randomly sampled response sheets submitted by license applicants. The sample consists of 4,260 persons. As of now applicants should not be familiar with the specific test versions in advance. Concerning difficulty measures should be taken with respect to some of the more deviant tests. Reliability regarded by the applicants is not quite satisfactory. Measures could be taken to solve the problem of incorrect failure. /MW/
