EROSION ALONG HIGHWAY RIGHTS-OF-WAY
Concern for the numerous design, construction and maintenance problems presented by erosion along highway rights-of-way, particularly at major drainage structures, has led to the institution by the Federal Highway Administration of a special demonstration project. Project Number 31, Hydraulic Design of Energy Dissipators for Highway Culvert and Channels, will demonstrate methods for selecting and designing a broad range of flow control devices to representatives of State and local highway agencies. The erosion problems encountered by highway engineers is caused by the disruption and alteration of natural drainage networks by highway construction.
