DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE LOUISIANA OFFSHORE OIL PORT
For the foreseeable future, domestic production of energy must be supplemented with a flow of imported crude oil. Experience worldwide has shown that supertankers (very large crude carriers) can significantly reduce transportation costs and, in conjunction with terminal facilities specially designed for their use, solve basic logistical and environmental problems. Briefly describes oil import forecast for years 1990 and 2010, site selection and moorings (spm and salm) for the offshore terminal, pumping facilities and an unusual salt dome storage terminal located on shore. Construction time and estimated costs are included.
