GENERAL INTRODUCTION, MAIN CONCLUSIONS OF THE 1989 CONFERENCE ON REFLECTIVE CRACKING IN PAVEMENTS, AND FUTURE PROSPECTS
A RILEM Technical Committee was set up in 1986 to study the problems related to the use of geotextiles and geotextile-related products in preventing cracks propagation in pavements: TC 97- GCR. The objectives of this Technical Committee are: to establish a state of the art on the subject; and to recommend on site and laboratory test methods to determine relevant parameters. This Technical Committee organized the first conference which was held in Liege, March 1989, with the title: "Reflective Cracking in Pavements: Assessment and Control". During this conference, very valuable contributions were presented on: laboratory and full scale experiments; design models for reflective cracking in pavements; case histories. Introductory papers gave overviews on: nature, origin of the cracks and remedial measures; design aspects. This second conference has as its objectives: a continuation of discussion on the three above mentioned topics; and to draw attention to the design recommendations for field applications. For the covering abstract see IRRD 857794.
