AREA WIDE ASSESSMENT - A WAY FORWARD
This paper will describe research that has been undertaken at TERU, Napier Polytechnic over the past two years. The aim of the work is to develop a common methodology for TIA's which incorporates a method that will identify and in appropriate cases, quantify the area-wide traffic- related consequences of new developments such as major shopping complexes or large industrial and business parks. The paper first describes some early work on a set of TIA guidelines for use in Scotland and the development of a trip generation datsbase, TRAIDS. An analysis of problems remaining in TIA methods follows and the justification of area-wide assessment is made. An early method is described and finally some preliminary conclusions are drawn concerning the directions for traffic impact analysis and development control in the future. (A).
