SHEILDING OF WATER LEAKAGE IN ROAD TUNNELS BY LINER PLATES OF CORRUGATED ALUMINUM
VANNSKJERMING MED BOLGEPLATERI VEGTUNNELER
Plates of corrugated aluminum are a suitable protection against water leakage in road tunnels provided to rock is stable, or, where necessary, supported by bolting. The plates will also have a positive effect on the tunnel lighting. Before installing the protection, one should make sure that the tunnel is at least 15 cm wider than the theoretical profile. To avoid corrosion, analyses of the leaking water should be performed to examine the content of aggressives. The protection is made up of three plates of 813 mm width and of 0,71 mm thickness riverted to each other by selv-sealing aluminum rivets. Each plate is curved in accordance with the theoretical profile of the tunnel. The protection is fastened to the rock bolts. The bolts are placed in the correct position by means of special jigs. Frost action requires a double lining of corrugated aluminum plates with insulation between to prevent freezing of the water (1). A guard rail should to be installed to avoid damage to the plates caused by vehicle accidents. /Author/
