USE OF SAFETY HELMETS AND GOGGLES BY MOTOR CYCLE AND MOPED RIDERS IN FINLAND IN 1973
This investigation is to examine the situation in Finland, Summer 1973, in view of the use of safety helmet and goggles by motor cycle and moped drivers. Information was collected for nearly 15,000 motorcycle riders or passagers and for about 6,500 moped riders. Observations were not made at fixed points. Motorcycle drivers average 77% safety helmet use, while passengers average 55% use. The safety helmet is used 75% of thetime in the country, compared to town use, 63%. Fifty-eight per cent of observed motorcycle riders had goggles. Only about 2-3% of moped riders wore a safety helmet or goggles. In examining the use of the safety helmet, observations should be made from fixed measuring spots randomly selected to represent various regions and traffic conditions. /SRIS/
