SEA LANES TEST-OPERATIONS REPORT. NATIONAL DATA BUOY SYSTEMS
The Sea Lanes Buoy Project, conducted between November 1969 and September 1970, was a developmental test of deep water U.S. Coast Guard aids to navigation moorings. This experiment was carried out in the 3600 to 4000 foot water depths three nautical miles northeast of San Clemente Island, California. Buoy motion, long and short term mooring line tension, and buoy position data were obtained for four aids to navigation buoys and a forty foot diameter discus constructed of ferrocement. This report covers the origins of this Project, its goals, design of the mooring systems, performance of the tests and the results obtained. (Author)
