PREDICTION OF FUTURE DEMAND LEVELS
Present travel generation characteristics are discussed for eight british conurbations in terms of car ownership and trip generation by purpose and by mode. Projections of travel demand for dates up to 2001 are presented for the same areas against the background of forecast population and employment changes. Forecasts are given of future car ownership and travel generation, particularly by car. Comparisons are then made between these figures and forecasts for certain larger American cities which highlight differences in planning approaches. The concluding section considers the implication of restraint policies. The number of the covering abstract of the textbook is IRRD Abstract No. 212298. /TRRL/
