VEHICLE CHARACTERISTICS FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF WEIGHT AND MAXIMUM DIMENSIONS

CARACTERISTICAS DE LOS VEHICULAS EN RELACION CON PESOS Y DIMENSIONES MAXIMAS

A study is made of the technical characteristics of transport vehicles from the point of view of their use as described in the highway code. The following aspects are stressed: it is a fact that lorries are grossly overloaded; for safety reasons, manufacturers are forced to produce vehicles capable of supporting effective surcharges; surcharges will continue as long as no strict measures are taken to prevent them; transport programming will recommend the increasing use of containers, thus leading to a revision of the limits of total maximum load; a power/weight ratio must be envisaged, which should be adapted to the needs and orography of the country.
