The article describes the methods of calculating dimensions for tank cars in the USSR, and shows how these methods are constantly developed through research at the Moscow Institute of Railway Engineers, at the Adanov heavy machinery construction institute, and other organisations. Among the methods explained, approximate calculations are also given for use in preliminary projects, as well as methods for accurate stress analysis.
