NEW YORK LOOKS AT MAGLEV TRAINS
The article describes how magnetic levitation (maglev) technology has the promise of complementing existing air, rail and highway networks at the same time that it provides significant transportation, environmental, energy and economic benefits to the public. The article also discusses a report by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority that summarizes the current status of maglev in the United States and alternative maglev systems, system requirements and characteristics, energy use and air pollution impacts. The New York State Thruway Authority is planning a study to identify a 25- to 50-mile section of the Thruway for construction of an elevated dual guideway for demonstration of a maglev system. Details of this study are summazed.
