THE TRANSPORTATION-AIR QUALITY CONNECTION: PERCEPTIONS AND REALITIES
This paper focuses on "myths and facts" relating to the connection between transportation and air quality. There are a number of perceptions about this relationship held by environmental advocates and the transportation and environmental engineering professions that vary significantly from reality. These perceptions need to be reshaped to better fit the realities of the relationship if we are to make real progress towards meeting clean air goals as mandated by the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, and to ensure that our efforts to clean the air are not misplaced.
