HOW BELLEVUE OPTIMIZED ITS TRAFFIC FLOW

The City of Bellevue, Washington has worked aggressively to optimally serve the demand for service presented by traffic in the area. The motivation for this efficient response to changing demand patterns, ranges from concern for air quality and pollution abatement through a deep seated sensitivity to mobiolity and travel enhancement needs that directly impact the economic vitality and well being of the community. The desirability of living in the Bellevue Area, coupled with the health of the Cities economy promotes the generator and use of necessary funding. Without the economic fuel, the introduction of remote phase reversal capability would not have emerged as a viable application of traffic engineering principles. The flexibility and controls available from a centralized system with remotely controlled multiple phase sets and phase sequences, produced the tools needed to achieve efficient movement in Bellevue, and substantially complicated routing.
