ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT: A GUIDE TO THE PROCEDURES
This booklet explains how EEC requirments for the environmental assessment of major projects have been incorporated into consent procedures in the United Kingdom. Parts 1 and 2 of the booklet explain the procedures which fall within the scope of the EEC Directive and require planning permission in England and Wales. Some general guidance on the nature of environmental assessment, and on the practical aspects of preparing an environmental statement, are also provided. Part 3 gives a brief account of the procedures which apply to other projects such as motorways or long distance pipelines, which have to be approved under procedures other than planning procedures. It also deals briefly with environmental assessment procedures in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
