DETERMINATION OF CONSTITUTIVE PARAMETERS FROM PRESSUREMETER TESTS . PRESSUREMETERS. PROCEEDINGS OF THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM, ORGANISED BY THE BRITISH GEOTECHNICAL SOCIETY, OXFORD UNIVERSITY, APRIL 2-6, 1990

This paper presents a new method for the interpretation of the pressuremeter test which makes it possible to determine some in situ parameters of constitutive models well adapted for soil. The "PRESS'IDENT" (pressuremeter identification) sofware is used. The optimum parameters are obtained by fitting a simulated curve, given by a simple finite element modelling of the pressuremeter test, to the measured pressuremeter curve. The whole operation is very fast, working on a microcomputer, and can be used for any kind of constitutive law. This method can be used either in combination with laboratory tests or alone (in this case some parameters have to be approximated). The calculation of the settlement of a cooling tower at a French nuclear power plant, using the soil parameters defined by this method, are presented and compared with the in situ measured values.
