EFFECTS OF ALTERNATIVE FUELS ON THE U.S. TRUCKING INDUSTRY. IN: THE TRANSPORTATION IMPACTS OF THE CLEAN AIR ACT: MOBILE SOURCE EMISSIONS AND ALTERNAIVE FUELS. ABSTRACTED PROCEEDINGS. DES MOINES, IOWA, JULY 25-26, 1991

This report assesses the impact of the alternative fuels most often mentioned as replacement fuels for current motor fuels. The five fuels are: (1) neat methanol (M-100); (2) methanol blend 85 percent methanol and 15 percent gasoline (M85); (3) compressed natural gas (CNG); (4) liquefied petroleum gas (LPG); and (5) liquefied natural gas (LNG). The study assumes that alternative fuels will be introduced into geographic regions that are listed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as extreme or severe ozone non-attainment areas or as possessing unique problems with other air quality measures. Those regions are combined into five geographic areas: (1) Denver Metropolitan Area; (2) Boston to Washington, D.C. corridor; (3) Chicago Metropolitan area; (3) Chicago Metropolitan area; (4) Los Angeles Basin; and (5) Houston Metropolitan area.
