REAL ESTATE ACTIVITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS A CASE STUDY
The right-of-way area of transportation management is studied in an effort to identify the value of an automated management information system. Right of way activity is distributed across five bureaus (Appraisal, Utilities and Properties, Relocation Assistance, Acquisition and Right of Way Engineering) and their responsibilities are listed. The bureau administrator's need for adequate and timely information is discussed. The ideal management system for the right-of-way manager should be one that provides sufficient detail about his operation, and which is adequately coordinated with inter related operations so that the right of way operation is efficiently and economically coordinated with the construction objectives of the Highway Department. In Ohio, the Real Estate Administrator may use a video display terminal to determine if the right-of-way on a project is clear, if a sale date can be met, how much money has accrued on the project and what is the earliest possible sale date by which a project can be clear.
