CONTAINERS: THEIR DEFINITION AND IMPLICATIONS

Containers have greatly expanded the international movement of agricultural commodities. The technical changes are far ahead of the legal structures in this field. There needs to be a uniform code developed so that this service is dealt with equally by all nations. This article reviews the background for such a code. It discusses definitions under U.S. and international law, containers as vehicles, government and shipping, international registration and certification, uniform marking of containers and various potential plans.
