EFFECT OF REINFORCEMENT LAYOUT ON SOIL STRENGTH
This paper presents the results of a laboratory investigation of the shear strength of soil reinforced with metal strips. The investigations were conducted using a large, specific purpose-built shear box. The investigations involved three reinforcement layouts (along the shear surface, across the shear surface, and spread evenly in both directions), two types of strips (smooth, ribbed), and three quantitites of reinforcement (strips of different widths). The results indicate the importance of reinforcement layout in soil shear strength enhancement, with strips spaced equally in both directions found to be most effective.
