DEREGULATION: THE POLITICAL ENVIRONMENT. SYMPOSIUM: AIRLINES AND THE FUTURE OF AVIATION, WASHINGTON, D.C., MAY 28-29, 1992
This conference presentation contains the comments of two speakers on the topic of deregulation and the political environment. M. Cohen examines the benefits of air transportation deregulation, concluding that if the remaining infrastructure and competition problems are addressed, these benefits should continue and with globalization should expand. H. Wexler takes the opposite viewpoint, pointing out the negative impact of deregulation on air transportation efficiency, the sacrifice of American technological leadership insofar as the airline fleet is concerned, and what deregulation has brought with regard to competition, economic pricing, and air travel growth.
