GROUT, NOT HARDWARE BEDS TROLLEY RAILS
Elastomeric grout imported from Germany is being used to embed rails in 7-inch deep slots formed in concrete bases in the construction of a trolley system in downtown Memphis. The grout will provide insulation that will prevent stray return currents in the rails from causing corrosion in utility lines and underground reinforced concrete, a major problem in systems built before the turn of the century. Highlights of the project are noted in this brief note.
