CONSTRUCTIOON INDUCED MOVEMENTS OF INSITU WALLS. DISCUSSION
This discussion coelesces statements published in proceedings of the 1990 ASCE geotechnical specialty conference, 'Design and performance of Earth Retaining Structures (1990)'. The discussion focuses on the paper by Clough and O'Rourke, "Construction Induced Movement of Insitu Walls," and references are made to statements by Peck in "Fifty Years of Lateral Support," and Liao and Neff in "Estimating Lateral Earth Pressure for Design of Excavation Support." The discussion attempts to present a practical viewpoint, and makes a case as to the fallacy of predesign soil pressure prediction, from the evidence prsented.
