AN INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUE FOR ESTIMATING TRIP GENERATION FOR PARKING FACILITIES
It is described how an innovative methodology was created to compute the trip generation rates for parking facilites in a study area, and how the conventional procedure of traffic impact analysis was simplified to fit the local needs for quick evaluation of alternative development proposals. The first step was conducting an impact analysis of the existing parking supply and demand in the study area. This was designed to establish a framework of supply and demand relationships based on trip distribution patterns that could be utilized for trafffic impact analysis purposes. A traffic analysis was conducted following the procedure of trip generation, trip distribution and traffic assignment. Details of the traffic impact analysis are also described. This innovative methodology has been applied in Urbana and has produced reasonable outcomes.
