THE SWEDISH EXPERIENCE: CHANGES IN BAC LEGISLATION
The article describes the reasons and the process behind the recent lowering of the legal BAC limit in Sweden. Some early results from the evaluation of the changes in the legislation are also included. New figures regarding the involvement of alcohol in fatal crashes reveal that almost one-third of the killed car drivers had been drinking. The article also discusses the fact that a majority of the drivers in fatal accidents as well as the DUI drivers, overall, have high BACs, and compares the involvement of alcohol in traffic in the United States and Sweden.
