THE TREATMENT OF WASTEWATER FROM PETROLEUM BARGE CLEANING FACILITIES
A field and laboratory study on the problems associated with handling and treating washwater from cleaning petroleum barges is presented. Approximate water requirements were determined/unit barge cleaned and expected waste loadings quantified with respect to type of previous cargo. The wastewater resembles that from a combined refinery and petrochemical plant, but because of the wide variation of the wastewater parameters, the batch flow characteristics of the waste, and the high salt concentrations from bilge water, the effluent presented a difficult waste to process.
