VEHICLE ACTUATED AIR POLLUTION
LUFTFOERORENINGAR FRAAN FORDON. MILJOEMAAL OCH KONSEKVENSER. KUNSKAPSOEVERSIKT
A number of Swedish agencies have collaborated on a study of an environment- and energy-adapted transportation system around the year 2015. The present report, which is a part of this study, describes the state-of-the-art of propulsion techniques of road vehicles and concentrates on environmental aspects, indicating performance potentials for further development. The report is based on project results and statements by representatives of the automobile industry and research and development institutions and also on knowledge gained from current research projects. It appears from the report that there is a great potential to meet even the most stringent emission requirements. An exception might be nitrogen oxides and some other harmful emissions from diesel driven transport. The report also states that extensive reduction of the emission of greenhouse gases is only possible by means of large-scale use of nonfossil fuels and that it is possible even today to use extremely advantageous technical solutions with regard to health and the environment.
