PEDESTRIAN FLOWS IN THE CENTRAL AREA OF LEICESTER. A STUDY IN SPATIAL BEHAVIOUR
This study is an attempt to analyse some of the notions contained within a system of consumer behaviour represented by pedestrian flows in the central area of Leicester. Pedestrian counts were made at six different times during the day of investigation, and a 4 per cent sample of pedestrians in each period were interviewed. Three aspects are examined in detail: the pattern of pedestrian flows; the motives for pedestrian visits to the city centre; and the socio-economic backgrounds of pedestrians. Lastly, attention is drawn to the implications that these results have for planning and central area redevelopment schemes. (A) /TRRL/
