SIMPLE MODEL FOR DESIGN OF FRAMED-TUBE STRUCTURES
The paper proposes a simple model that gives accurate results for the preliminary analysis and design of framed-tube structures. The structure is modeled as a series of stringers and shear panels. The model is flexible, easy to use, and can be employed for design sensitivity and optimization of framed-tube structures. It gives very accurate results for the lateral displacements of the building. A transfer matrix approach is developed to help solve structures with different geometric and material properties along the height of the building. For multiple segments, the method becomes too complicated, and a computer program should be used for the calculations.
