INHIBITION OF CORROSION UNDER DESALINATION CONDITIONS, 5. CORROSION RATES OBTAINED ON COPPER ALLOYS WITH A CHROMATE-PHOSPHATE INHIBITOR
Carbon steel, low alloy steel, and CDA 122 (90 plus Cu) and 706 (90Cu-IONi) were tested in flowing 110 to 121 C sea salt under desalination conditions using phosphate-phosphonate scale control plus 0.25 to 1 ppm chromate corrosion inhibitor. Sea water was deaerated and decarbonated with pH adjusted to 7. While dissolved oxygen was kept at 25 ppm, 101 day tests showed copper alloy corrosion rates at 0.036 to 0.1 mpy in the recycle section and 0.12 to 0.15 in the brine heater section. Carbon steel had corresponding rates of 4.5 and 4.0; low alloy steel, 2.8 and 3.0. /Author/
