EVALUATION OF CRUSHED GLASS IN ASPHALT PAVING MIXTURES

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using crushed glass as a replacement for a portion of the fine aggregate in asphalt concrete mixtures. Laboratory experiments were conducted to determine the effects that a small percentage of crushed glass would have on standard mix properties. The economics of using crushed glass as an aggregate substitute in Florida was also examined. The report is organized as follows: Introduction; Purpose and Scope; Discussion - Stripping, Decreased Cooling Rate, Glass Degradation, Skid Resistance, Performance and Cost; Laboratory Study - Marshall Properties, Tensile Strengths and Boil Test; Economic Analysis; Conclusions; and Recommendations.
