EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN GUIDELINES FOR ASPHALT RESEARCH CONTRACTORS. REVISED 1991
In order to accomplish the objectives of the Strategic Highway Research Program's asphalt research program, it is imperative that statistically sound experimental designs be developed and followed. For the program to be sussessful, a mechanism must exist which permits contractors doing work under individual contracts to merge, correlate, and draw statistically valid inferences from the data collected from the various studies. The various chapters of this publication cover the role of the contractor, the selection of materials for the materials reference library, the asphalt program data base, application of experimental design concepts to the research coordinated by the contractor, and guidelines for development of an experimetnal plan. Examples of issues to be addressed in the development of experimental designs are given in an appendix.
