RAILROADERS PROBE THE NEXT 10 YEARS
Theme of the 21st International Railway Congress jointly sponsored by the International Railway Congress Association (IRCA) and the International Union of Railways (UIC) was to present information on outlook for the next ten years to improve the competitive position of the railroads. No overwhelming revolutionary force could be identified for the railroads' future, but advances were evident in many areas - the development of higher speeds, concern over track condition, advanced equipment design, and higher capacity electrification. Other areas under consideration were information systems, marketing research, pricing strategies, planning, and environmental problems.
