POLICIES ON SERVICE FACILITIES ON TOLL EXPRESSWAYS IN KOREA. PROCEEDINGS, SIXTH CONFERENCE, ROAD ENGINEERING ASSOCIATION OF ASIA AND AUSTRALASIA, 4-10 MARCH 1990, KUALA LUMPUR, VOLUMES 1 TO 5 AND POST CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS
Service facilities, such as service areas and parking areas, are important features of toll roads of closed toll collection systems because they are a principal requirement to help drivers perform safe and comfortable use of the road. Furthermore, improved standards of living and increased use of automobiles have changed the pattern of service facility use in Korea. To keep pace with upgrading desire of people and increasing demand, Korea Highway Corporation reviewed its policies on service facilities and established "Long-Term Plan for Service Facility Development". This paper presents the status of service facilities, the analysis results of the characteristics of service facility use, and the future plan for development. According to the plan, the average spacing between all types of service facilities will be reduced from current 56 km to 20-30 km. For the covering entry of the conference see IRRD 823206.
