THE PEDESTRIAN AND TRAFFIC SAFETY
DE VOETGANGER EN DE VERKEERSVEILIGHEID
Data are collected from available Dutch and foreign literature on pedestrian accidents. The development of pedestrian accidents is presented, with reference to pedestrian participation in traffic, the severity of pedestrian accidents and the nature of the injuries involved. The deterioration of pedestrian safety is described from statistical data obtained in the Netherlands from 1968 to 1971. The accident data from foreign literature are grouped according to the following characteristics: sex, age, drunkenness and social factors. Environmental influences and some variables concerning the task of the pedestrian and driver are discussed. /TRRL/
