CHIMP - AN INEXPENSIVE MICRO-COMPUTERISED SYSTEM FOR FACILITATING THE MANAGEMENT AND PRESERVATION OF A ROAD NETWORK. PROCEEDINGS, SIXTH CONFERENCE, ROAD ENGINEERING ASSOCIATION OF ASIA AND AUSTRALASIA, 4-10 MARCH 1990, KUALA LUMPUR, VOLUMES 1 TO 5 AND POST CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS

The environment today in many countries is one of public sector spending restraint and increasing public accountability. Within this context, authorities responsible for stewardship of public infrastructure have an obligation to maintain vastly improved records on their stock of assets. In the roads arena, any computerised system which draws together road and pavement inventory, construction history, condition data and traffic information in such a way that this information is easily stored, updated, inter-related and retrieved, is sure to have wide application. In Main Roads (Queensland, Australia), such a system - called CHIMP - has been developed for use on a micro-computer. CHIMP allows road and bridge inventories to be maintained with ease, and automates a number of road-related administrative functions. The system is particularly suited to authorities and countries which do not wish to make a large investment in computing technology. CHIMP will enable such countries to gain an early lead in the area of how best they can preserve and manage their road systems. For the covering entry of the conference see IRRD 823206.
