UNSYMMETRICAL CROSSED BRAKE CONNECTIONS

A reference point is needed when checking axle rotation speed to ascertain that the axles of a motive power unit do not slide during braking. However, electric locomotives most often do not have idler axles which could serve as a reference point. The author suggests lowering the induction field of one of the motors to eliminate all possibility of its slowing the axle to which it is connected. Some thirty formulas and equations are given to explain how to calculate the brake power of 2 motors in relation to the speed of the motive power unit and for various values of a shunting coefficient on one of the two inductors.
